Tea is the most popular beverage and the second most consumed beverage in the world only next to water. Its mostly grown in Asia but consumed the world over. In some countries tea is more popular than other countries. For many people tea is part of their staple diet. Unlike in Asia, tea in Europe with the exception of Ireland and England tea is not consumed much. Countries like China, India and Japan are voracious drinkers of tea.

History and Origins

China is the country where tea had it’s beginning. According to legend, around 2737 BC, Shen Nung the Chinese emperor had the habit of sitting under a tree after a heavy meal, while his servant boiled drinking water. Some leaves fell into the water being boiled. He noticed that the taste of the water was different then what it normally used to be. He experimented with it and that’s how the Tea was born.

Types of Tea

There is wide variety of tea that is grown globally. There are 4 main varieties of tea: White Tea, Green Tea, Oolong Tea, and Black Tea. Black tea is the most common of all but in recent years more and more people have begun consuming Green tea because of its seeming health benefits.

Other types of tea that people consume are Black, white, green, Oolong, Herbal, Ayurvedic, Peppermint, Matcha etc. Matcha, traditionally consumed in Japan has now become increasingly popular across the world because of it multiple health benefits.

People consume tea with or without milk and sugar but it’s believed that tea consumed without milk and sugar is much more healthier than with it.

People today have become more health and beauty conscious. They are aware of food products that would enhance their health. Many people today prefer Green Tea because it contains a catechin called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG).

Catechin are natural anti-oxidants that prevents cell damage. This helps in reducing the growth of free radicals.

Green tea has very high amounts of flavonoids that boosts your heart health by lowering bad cholesterol.

It has been a popular drink in China and Japan for centuries and also considered a medical drink.

In 18th century England, Green tea was considered so precious that it was frequently smuggled in to avoid taxes.

Today, Green tea is widely available worldwide. Green tea of various brands are available in the market today. This gives the customer a wide variety to choose from and get a unique taste.

Matcha

Matcha is another type of tea that is becoming a rage across the world for its many health benefits. Traditionally consumed in Japan, and matcha is fast becoming popular with various brands entering the market to give customers a different taste.
